How to Join a Rust PvE Zombie Server in 2 Minutes
New to Rust or coming back after a break and want to jump into a PvE Zombie server without the chaos of full PvP? This guide covers three methods that actually work, plus how to fix the most common connection issues.
Three Ways to Connect
1. Via the Favorites List (recommended)
- Launch Rust from Steam
- From the main menu → Play
- Click Favorites in the sidebar
- Click + (add a server by IP)
- Paste the full IP — for example
dead-harbour.com:28015 - The server appears in the list — double-click to join
The upside: once it's saved, you reconnect instantly after every Wipe.
2. Via the F1 Console (fastest method)
- In-game (or from the main menu), press F1
- Type the command:
```
client.connect dead-harbour.com:28015
```
- Hit Enter
You're in within 3 seconds. Perfect when a friend DMs you an IP on Discord.
3. Via a steam://connect Link
Some servers (like DEAD HARBOUR) have a Join in 1 click button right on their landing page. Example: steam://connect/dead-harbour.com:28015. One click, Steam takes over, you're connected. Great for newsletters and CTAs.
What is a PvE Zombie Server?
A Rust PvE server disables or heavily restricts player-vs-player combat — no base raiding, no kill-on-sight nonsense. Instead, the threat comes from the environment: zombies (Night Zombies mod), custom Bosses, PvE events, and dedicated PvP zones for players who still want that adrenaline rush.
The x5 modifier means resources (wood, stone, metal, Loot) are multiplied by 5 compared to vanilla. Less grind, more building, more exploring.
3 Most Common Connection Errors
"Disconnected: Connection attempt failed"
The server is offline or your firewall is blocking UDP 28015. Check:
- Is the server up? (check the status on the server's landing page)
- Is Rust allowed through your antivirus / firewall on outbound UDP?
"EAC: Disconnected"
Easy Anti-Cheat is blocking the connection. Common causes:
- You have a recent VAC ban (less than 1 year old)
- Your Rust client is out of date
- EAC isn't installed properly — Steam → right-click Rust → Properties → Local Files → Verify integrity
"Server is full"
Not much to do but wait. Some servers have a queue that holds your spot until a slot opens up. DEAD HARBOUR has a native queue built in.
How to Pick a Good PvE Zombie Server
Check these 5 things before committing:
- Average CCU (concurrent players) — an empty server is a dead server
- Wipe frequency — monthly is the PvE standard; weekly is too fast
- Anti-cheat — a custom system on top of vanilla EAC means they're serious
- Active Discord — a sign the community is actually alive
- Ethical monetization — no hard P2W, just QoL and cosmetics

FAQ
Can I play solo or do I need a group?
Totally solo-friendly. PvE means no one's raiding your base while you're offline — progress at your own pace.
Does a Wipe erase all my Achievements?
Nope. A Wipe resets the map and the seasonal Battle Pass. Your Achievements, prestige, and titles are permanent.
Can I pay to get an advantage?
DEAD HARBOUR keeps monetization fair: VIP = QoL perks (starter kits, Skins, queue priority, offline protection bonus). No pay-to-win gear.
